Working hard in Engineering. Colin climbs out from under the warp core assembly and moves to check his work on the panel on the wall.
While he looks, an alert light blinks.
What the hell? I wasn't working anywhere near that system!
He debates ordering a junior crewman to check it out, but, needing a break from the work under the warp core, he grabs his toolkit, and a phase pistol, and leaves to tend to it himself.
*pauses work and takes a deep breath*
*is so totally in over her head... good God, can barely make heads or tails of the secondary circuits*
*thinks about aborting before any alarms go off or anything*
*could think better in jeans and cute little aqua and white Latour blouse*
Damn it, focus.
*one more quick glance at the PADD, and dives back in...*
The turbolift doors open to dim lighting and silence. The section with the alarm going off is in a deserted part of the ship.
As Colin gets closer he hears someone working...
He quietly draws his phase pistol, making sure it's set to kill, before turning the corner...
*makes a very undignified squeaking noise and drops the PADD*
Shit, shit, SHIT.
*fumbles with the panel, trying to shut it, of course there would be silent alarms, duh*
*tries to collect the PADD and make a run for it before Colin realizes it's her...*
Colin nearly drops his phase pistol when he sees who it is.
Damn, and that was such a cool entrance too...
His arm falls to his side as he looks a Bella struggling with the panel. He watches as she grabs the PADD and runs for it.
"Oh get back here... I know it's you. What the hell are you doing?"
*clutches the PADD to her chest and sighs, turning slightly*
*pulls the pony-tail out finally*
Um, hey. I was just, er... considering a career change?
*shifts uncomfortably in itchy uniform, scratches at stomach, knows for a fact she didn't put any starch in the wash with this one, what the hell?!*
How do you wear this damned uniform all the time. It itches like hell.
Yeah, change the subject.
"..we wear an undershirt. Chicks don't get one."
Colin closes his eyes for a second, mentally berating himself for falling for such a blatant attempt to change the subject.
Back to business.
He waves his phase pistol in the direction of Bella's 'work'.
"What the hell is this? You've set off alarms all over Engineering."
*eyes go wide, glances down at the PADD*
They weren't supposed to go off until tomorrow morning!
*goes back to the panel, didn't quite get it in place, oops*
*checks the schematic against own work*
*mutters more curses, pulling out green wire, then purple wire...*
*studiously ignoring Colin*
As Bella contiues to ignore him, Colin gets impatient.
"Bella, what were you foing?"
Still being ignored. He crosses his arms.
Yup, still being igored. The foot starts tapping impatiently...
*stops working and turns to him, leaning her back against the wall*
*can't fix the damn thing anyway*
*feels strangely high school-ish, like having to face the principal that one time for drawing on Janette Dupont's face with a permanent marker in math when she fell asleep*
"Ok, ok! Look, when La'eer said she wouldn't help me with... my, um, problem? I kind of figured I'd just let bygones be bygones and get on with life."
*drops her voice, kicking imaginary lint on the deckplates*
It's not that easy. I thought I might... *waves PADD vaguely towards open panel* ... take matters into my own hands. As it were. But I, um, well. I suck.
Colin listens. Then looks at the panel she was messing with.
Looks back at Bella.
Then at the panel.
Then back at Bella.
Then, to the panel again.
"So... you were going to kill him with the automatic toilet cleaning system?"
*scrolls through PADD madly, checking every detail, cross checking, and...*
Crap... 'cause that had the potential to be awesome...
He moves closer to look over her shoulder at the PADD"
"So you weren't planning on that then. Well, what were you trying to do?"
Um, I was trying to rig the heating conduits to explode if he goes near them. DNA scan type... dealie. Thing.
*waves PADD about*
I got this from Lorenzo. I told him I was interested in learning some more practical applications of cross-wiring. *smiles weakly* I used that whole 'change of careers' line on him, too. He was, uh, really happy. He thinks I'm wasting a perfectly good brain on this ship.
*shrugs and slides down the wall to sit on the floor*
I'd have to disagree with him. *buries face in hands*
*mumbles* Look, I'll revert the damage. Or... pseudo-damage. You can go back to whatever you were doing.
He frowns at her.
"It's too late for that, I know now. I gotta report you to the Emperor, or have an excuse for why the alarm went off."
He slides down the wall to a sitting position and starts rummaging in his toolkit.
"In fact, if we don't hurry up, someone from Engineering will be along soon, to check up on me."
He hands her some tools.
"I don't plan on giving them anything to talk about. So help me make up a story."
Well... we could say my toilet malfunctioned. And I just tried to fix it myself. If it's a junior staff member, I can flirt my way out of any pressing questions.
*thinks on it*
*mutters* I can probably convince the Admiral it's nothing, too.
Um, can I help? I promise I'll try not to screw it up. At least, no more than I already did.
Colin thinks a bit.
Yeah, that'll work.
"Ok then. Place those wires back the way you found them, then shove the works back into the casing while I work on the relays here."
*looks at the schematic quick before getting started, doesn't want to do something wrong and blow up the Emperor or Commander or, God forbid, La'eer by mistake*
*glances sideways at companion*
So, um. Thanks for not shooting me and stuff.
Colin has a mini-welder in his mouth and answers with:
He peers into the panel and make a few adjustments.
"There. That should do it."
Getting up, he rubs his hands on his trousers and offers one to Bella to help her up.
"If we're gonna do this, we need to do it right. That means we gotta have a plan."
He looks back that the panel.
"A good plan. One that will work and can't be traced back to us."
*takes Colin's hand to get up*
*smiles a little*
I was thinking that an accident would be the best way. Something that won't make the Emperor too curious. Um, hence the explosion thing. If it just looked like crossed wires and couldn't be traced... *shrugs* But I'm not sure. I'm not really sure that I want to do it at all anymore...
*sighs* I'm still nagging at La'eer. She might come around at some point. Or maybe Jensen. *shudders at his name, can't help it* He's psycho enough to do it.
*shudders again and squeezes Colin's hand, didn't realize hadn't let go*
Oh, sorry. *lets go*
