::reviewing more of the Xindi database, for the forty-seventh millionth time... eyes beginning to bleed at this point::
::gets distracted by the comm, glances at speaker then back at screen::
::seeks out button without looking then punches it::
... Trip? What's wrong?
*looks up from desk buried in logs and work requests*
Sir? I didn't call you.
::blinks, looks at comm::
You just said you could use a hand...
No, I didn't.
::blinks again, rubs eyes as speaks::
I'm not imagining things...
You just comm'd me, I hit the button a half-second later.
*cannot believe what he's hearing*
Jon, I swear, I did not just comm you. Are you not sleeping again? I've told you to stop that.
::drops hands, beginning to get frustrated::
I'm sleeping fine Trip, I'm not tired, I'm not hearing things, you comm'd me. No one else even remotely sounds like you.
I'm going to take that as a compliment, but I swear, I did not comm you.
Alright, I'm running a diagnostic on the comm system, I don't care what Hoshi says. Feel free to come on down to check it out, it won't take long.
So you do want me to come down.
::suppresses urge to smirk a little::
*heaves an exaggerated sigh*
I didn't at the beginning of this call, and I'm debating if I want you anywhere near my warp core, but I'm leaving it up to you. Feel free.
::finally smiles, needs the break anyway::
I'll be right there. Archer out.
::punches comm closed, gets up and stretches::
::head out Ready Room door to lift::
::mulls over what was just reviewing, doesn't notice it takes a little longer for lift to get to Engineering deck::
::door takes a moment to open... that's odd...::
::steps out of lift, feels sharp pain to back of head and everything... goes... black...
Kelby waits in the corridor for Archer to appear, hiding along the wall. He knows Malware's called Archer down to Engineering... it won't be long now. He's taken steps to ensure that they won't be interrupted.
...too late to back out...
He's managed to steal a phase pistol from the nearest weapons locker. He takes a moment to give silent thanks to whichever paranoid soul back at headquarters thought it would be a good idea to load the ship up with weapons. Although, this probably isn't what they intended...
Kelby hears the lift doors open, and footsteps coming closer.
It's now or never, Rus, you can't back out now.
He steps away from the wall, raises the gun, and points it at the Captain.
He registers a brief view of Captain Archer before he shuts his eyes and fires.
Kelby's eyes snap open as he hears Archer's head give a loud smack against the lift doors.
Uh... he must'a fallen backwards more than I thought he would.
He gingerly turns the captain over and inspects his head. It doesn't look too bad, but he will have one hell of a headache when he wakes up.
All the more incentive to get Captain Courageous here to the brig with a quickness.
Kelby reaches down to grab Archer under the arms. As he does so, he notices that his own uniform is soaked with sweat. Ugh, goddamn, that's disgusting. I'll have to change my uniform...
...Superman never has to change his uniform...
...James Bond never has to change his uniform...
He gives Archer's dead weight a heft to get in position of the long drag down to the brig. Kelby can feel the muscles in his back straining as he drags.
God damn, Captain sure ain't no pixie...
At least twenty minutes later, with no one the wiser thanks to Kelby's planned 'door malfunctions' keeping is way clear of crew, Kelby and his unconcious burden finally reach the brig.
He unceremoniously stuffs the captain in one of the cells, far away from the door.
As he walks away, he turns back...
Kinda pitiful, lyin' there...
He walks back and, lower back protesting every inch, gently moves Archer into a lying position on the cell's cot. He stretches, knowing he'll regret it later when the adrenaline runs out, and leaves the cell, locking the captain in.
*goes out to main engineering*
*walks up to an empty console, starts comm system diagnostic*
*leans back against wall*
*does a quick mental count of staff*
...I'm missing someone, who am I missing?
Fucking Kelby, where are you?
*checks on diagnostic's progress, notices it's going a little slower than normal*
*looks at watch*
Jon, where are you?
*...this Commander is too curious for his own good...*
*...locks the entry ways, sealing the Commander in...*
*eyeing diagnostic as hears all of the doors to engineering whoosh shut and cycle through the locks*
*barks orders for a head count*
Hendricks is doing maintence on the shield emitters, Collinsworth is on bridge detail.... should have Li, McCampbell, Coombs, Burrows, and Mann.
*eyes computer warily as hears staff count back*
I want a full system-wide diagnostic on everything. Report anything unusual.
*hears staff get to it, approaches own console*
Alright, let's take a look at you.
*...tsk, he's still prying...*
*...shuts down all computer consoles in Engineering...*
*cocks an eyebrow*
So that's how you want to play it, huh?
Two can play at that game.
*walks over to warp core, ordering staff to just sit down and stay put*
*kneels down, opens a console*
*fiddles with some wires*
*walks to other side of core, opens another console, fiddles with some more wires*
*climbs ladder to console at front of core*
*takes T'Pol's tricorder thing out of pocket, unhooks power source, hooks it up to the readout*
*allows just enough power to initial a total core shutdown*
*...does he really think this'll work?...*
*...allows him to believe it, sets Tucker's tricorder read out to show that he succeeded...*
*...allows the rest of the ship to run as normal...*
*cocks head, can hear the engine still supplying power to the ship*
*goes into office, grabs the PIF dectector and tool kit, and sits in the middle of Engineering and gets to work*
*...observes that the Commander has stopped messing with the main power of the ship, for now...*
*...keeps an eye on him...*
*fiddles with the dectector's base code, scrolling through the dectection and firewall codes*
*strengthens the firewall code with overlapping and separate layers, binary codeon points and exclusion markers*
*finetines detection code*
*walks over to a console, hooks up the dectector to the main system, and turns it on*
*begins unscrewing all power couplings as quick as he can, motioning staff to do the same*
*...well, if we're going to fight dirty...*
*...plays one of Lizzie Tucker's past mail vids to her brother on the computer consoles, along with a written message...*
Don't you want to help stop her killers? Then stop messing with the computers.
*smiles to self*
Not gonna work, virus.
*unhooks last coupling, hears core shut down*
*jogs over to dectector, scans the readout*
*unhooks it, shuts it down*
*walks over to the console playing the vid*
I don't fold to emotional blackmail. And while you were busy trying to stop me from shutting down power, I tracked you down. I know exactly where you are, and I will wipe you from existence.
*turns around, walks to locker, grabs phase pistol, a couple of manual door openers, and a plasma cutter*
*moves to the door*
*...turns on secondary power supply...reboots...*
*...discontinues life support to Engineering...*
