[music |One More For Love-Five For Fighting]

::makes final visual sweep of shuttle bay, satisfied with results...two shuttles as ready for launch as they'll ever be, and two away teams...as ready as they'll ever be::

::offers particularly hard look to former drone when her head turns from jennydelaney, sighing inwardly at returned, painfully innocuousness look::

::glances back over to Baxial...Jetal looks almost as pleased by the likelihood of being caught in the middle of future fireworks::

::considers one more speech about professional behavior and duty, but almost immediately rejects the idea...if it didn't sink in the first five hundred times, it probably won't find footing what could be the very last time::

Sickbay never seems to find my concerns particularly relevant.

Honestly, it can't do any more harm than we're already risking. Linnis was exposed to the chronoton radiation right after she was born, before I could get her home and inoculated, and she's never shown adverse effects. kes_ has ridden a slipstream before and wasn't affected a second time. Maybe her initial experience was a fluke, and even if it wasn't, we know how to fix it.

Short term, we have bigger concerns.

::nods...his ability for weighing pros and cons has come a long way::

Well, then. Save me for last.

::smiles to indicate joke, beginning walk to the Cochrane and motioning for him to follow::

Think on your feet and be charming, Commander.

I need that wife of yours in a good mood when we leave here.

And preferably Jenny as well.

::sighs gustily::

I'm many things, Chakotay, but not a miracle worker.

::still, cracks most...charming...grin for the ladies on approach, earning a brow lift and a head toss, respectively::

Nope, no miracle worker.

::pulls annikahansen slightly aside, keeping voice low while showing present::

Linnis said to give you this. Portable alcove of sorts. You plug in and perk up.

::accepts canister, opening it to briefly examine contents::

Impressive. It is surprising I had not considered such a device myself.

::shuts case again, pondering::

As well as surprising that Doctor Paris would.

That's what I said. In a manner of speaking.

::breaks hard learned boundaries to reach out and cup her chin, that final contact, just in case::

::a final touch is damned important::

::shuts away a memory, forcing a laugh::

Linnis' problem with us isn't about you.

I am aware.

::hesitates, then returns contact, watching as always for any sign of revulsion from pilot once cold metal of implants contacts warm human skin::

::offers tentative smile of own, quickly disposing of it when fellow crew-mates stare::

::steps back, kit firmly in hand::

Thank you, Commander.

Any time, doll.

::twists to give her her pride back, quirking brow at up and moving Delaney::

Ensign. Ready to go?

Don't worry, Tom.

I want to get home to my momma in one mostly distinct piece, if you know what I mean.

::waggles fingers dismissively::

As long as she doesn't stab any consoles and electrocute herself, we'll be just peachy.

::actually grins, but wisely suppresses urge to offer a hug::

I wouldn't be that optimistic, but hey, if you can manage it, accolades are waiting.

::remembers second task as an afterthought, unpacking hypos::

::waves first release around::

Shots. First victim?

::glances from one woman to the next...and back::

::clearly, 'ladies first' has its limits::

::extends arm, ignoring pilot's smirk as he administers::
